The gang from Sesame Street came on the show today to promote Sesame Street Live, the 30-year running stage tour of Jim Hensen’s hit TV series.

They sang “Sunny Days,” the shows theme song and gave us tid-bits about some updates to the stage show. The show was the first of its kind to base its content on laboratory research, increasing its educational effectiveness. Sesame Street debuted in 1969 and consisted of Jim Hensen’s muppets, animation, live shorts and cultural references. Forty years later the show has evolved quite a bit and is broadcast in over 120 countries according to america.gov.

Sesame Street Live is playing at the Theater at Madison Square Garden February 4-15, 2010 and stars everyone’s favorite red monster, Elmo. The cast has a newbie this year too — Abby Cadabby the loveable fairy-in-training.
