TC McCarthy is an award-winning multimedia journalist from New York who specializes in video, photography and web design.
A graduate of Stony Brook University, McCarthy worked as an interactive producer for News12 Networks before going on to become a community journalist at Newsday Media Group, both on Long Island.
An avid media enthusiast, McCarthy joined Stony Brook University’s student run television station, SBU-TV, in his first week. His first assignment was to shoot an interview with Marcy McGinnis, the Associate Dean of the School of Journalism at Stony Brook. McGinnis, encouraged him to take an entry level journalism course. He enrolled in Journalism 101, News Literacy. It gave him the news bug.He is constantly looking to be a part of the ‘cutting edge’ of journalism. He has held several internships along the way. As an intern at Newsday, he was charged with the task of taking stories and making them interactive. Since then he has developed online applications that use social networks like foursquare to track the popularity of various Long Island locations and agreggate valuable tips from readers who frequent the venues to be passed on to others. He also built a carbon footprint calculator to help readers easily understand the impact they are having on the environment. He held a similar internship with WPIX11 morning news, a local New York broadcast.
McCarthy loves telling stories and welcomes every opportunity to use a camera or programming to do it.
